There are enough dolls and teddy bears to make a child’s head spin, and for grownups there are clay and brass cooking utensils, beautiful painted bowk, napkins and placemats in both gay and soft country prints.
Chipmunk Hollow has ornaments of every conceivable kind, all kinds of lights, and a selection of skirts to cover the base of the Christmas tree.
Maree and Norberg have decorated a very special tree with calico strawberries, green glass globes and plaid ribbon. It’s worth the trip there to see the careful display even if you haven’t thought about Christmas shopping yet Maree said that he and Norberg encourage browsers as well as children of every age.
"We’ve tried to set it up so that people will sing along with the carols, sit on the floor, play with the toys and generally feel at home here,” Maree said.
Maree added that response to the shop has been great, both from tourists and local people. “We hope that by carrying only quality things, we’ll provide a year-round service for the area,” he said.
Howard Maree also has been elected president of Sperryville’s newly formed business council and has plans for that group to be very active in the coming year.
"Our biggest project will be an apple festival next fall,” he said. “We’re starting to work on it now and we hope to involve all groups in the community.”
Chipmunk Hollow is open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. As the big day draws closer the owners will try to have it open until 7 every night. Present plans are to keep it open year-round except for major holidays and the first two weeks in January.
