Meeting
Thirty-seven Extension Secretaries attended the* ninth annual Professional Improvement Conference of the Northern District Extension Secretaries’ Association held September 29 at Airlie House in Warrenton.
In addition to the regular business meeting, the secretaries enjoyed a presentation on “The Art of Listening” by Dr. Richard S. Paritsky, Professor at George Mason University.
The afternoon program included “Your Role as an Extension Secretary” by Dr. Aubrey R. Slayton, Director of Staff Development at Virginia Tech. He is State Advisor of the NDSA.
Dr. Joseph W. Maxwell. Extension Specialist, Family Life, Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, ended the day with a presentation on “Self-Concept—Feeling Good About Yourself.”
New officers elected to serve the Association for the next two years were: Keith Lilly, President, from Loudoun County; Ruth Beach, Vice-President, Fauquier County; Marsha Pifer, Secretary, Clarke County; Margaret Clatterbuck, Treasurer, Madison County; and Jean Bryant, Reporter, Culpeper County.

Paul Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Brown of Sperryville, celebrated his fifth birthday on October 8. Guests included his brother, Jason; his grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Brown, Stevie Jefferies, J. C. and Cindy Welch, Daniel Coffey, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Nethers, Mrs. F. D. Coffey, Jr., and Gyde Atkins.
