local center. "We picked up a lot of social work functions," he noted.
At the same time, Scoggin began studies for a master’s degree in pastoral counseling at Wake Forest University. Currently, he’s in the process of doing research for a doctoral thesis. “I haven’t narrowed the topic yet but it will have something to do with the family and the church’s response to the family.”
After spending most of his ministry that first year in the hospital and counseling center, Scoggin “felt the need to get out into a local church...Then in the interviewing process, we—my wife and I—felt led to come here,” he explained. His wife, Nancy, also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in history, is planning to teach as a substitute this year in the county’s public schools.
Next fall, she intends to reenter college in order to gain certification as a teacher and wants to attend law school at some point in the future. “We also want to begin a family,” Steven added.
On his list of hobbies and interests, the 26-year-old minister puts reading in the top slot. “I’m a compulsive reader,” he admitted. Next comes anything athletic, particularly tennis, racketball and softball. “And I love antiques," he said, noting that his mother is a dealer.
