The employer must keep a record for each worker, showing name, social security number, amount of wages paid, and amount of taxes withheld. In addition, the employer is responsible for reporting the wages and sending the taxes collected to the Internal Revenue Service and for preparing a Form W2 (Wage and Tax Statement) for each employee.
