Unemployment

On the “continuing puzzle” of unemployment claims from former school employees. Estabrook reported that he’d written to Richmond requesting clarification and complete data on all claims filed by school personnel.

The matter came up last month when the board of supervisors agreed that the school board should begin to reimburse the state for unemployment claims from its former employees. The supervisors postponed implementation of the change until next year, however, in order to give the school board an opportunity to include money in its budget for that purpose.

The school board members in return expressed concern over their lack of information on the unemployment claims that have been reimbursed in the past by the supervisors, maintaining that some may be unwarranted.

Writing to Richmond is the best place to begin to get an accurate, total picture, Estabrook maintained Tuesday.
