At last month’s meeting, the supervisors tabled until their December session discussion of a “dance hall” ordinance. The ordinance was proposed in response to five years of complaints from Claybert Smoot over noise from the community center.
On Monday without discussing the tabled "dance hall” ordinance, the supervisors agreed to go into executive session. Before they could take a vote to close the meeting, Rachel Aylor, a spokesperson for a group representing thev Rappahannock Citizens League said she wanted to respond to Smoot's complaints.
The League, which owns the community center on Fodderstack Road, is a nonprofit organization, she said. “It is not a dance hall.” In reply to earlier charges from Smoot, she maintained that neither the League nor users of the community center can be held responsible for cars parked in Smoot’s yard or in the nearby cemetery. Owners of the cars are not necessarily involved in activities at the center, Aylor pointed out.
