interviewed four candidates for the combined position of zoning administrator and building official.
They announced that a decision on filling the twoday-per-week. $6,000 salary job will be made at a special meeting scheduled for Monday, December 14. at 7 p.m. in the court house.
Also in executive session, the board heard a report from commonwealth's attorney Baumgardner on a meeting he had last Thursday with attorneys representing the Massanova Pentacostal Church but no action was taken.
In a legal opinion rendering in October, Baumgardner held that a special use permit was required for operation of the church affiliated school in the basement of the red brick building on Route 622. But in earlier correspondence. Rev. L. D. Savage, pastor of Massanova, maintained that his church was operating a school ministry and would not apply for a special use permit.
Application for the permit would constitute admission that education is not a church function but rather a separate business that the church has chosen to engage in, according to Savage.
To date, the church has made no application for the permits required by the county's zoning ordinance for operation of a school on land zoned agricultural.
