Noise Meter Coining
‘‘There's no reason to consider the (dance hall) ordinance if you don't have a meter for measuring noise and you won’t have one for at least a month," said Ed Foster from the audience. He was referring to a decision by the supervisors earlier in the meeting to purchase a $560 decible meter and calibrating device. (The supervisors were required to buy the noise meter as part of the settlement reached in a legal case involving the county, local landowners and the Nationwide Pentacostal Evangelistic Association.)
In apparent agreement with Foster and with no further discussion, the board again tabled consideration of the proposed dance hall ordinance.
In a final item taken up after a two hour and ten minute executive session for personnel and litigation, the supervisors authorized planning commissioner Newbill Miller to secure enlargements of county soil maps from the Department of Agriculture’s cartographic office on a scale of one inch equals 660 feet. To be done just for the Sperryville area, the enlargements will be used to transfer lines marking the flood plain boundary of the Thornton River to zoning maps.
