Under the latest plan. Guest would be placed in the same district with fellow Republican Del. Clinton Miller of Woodstock. For that reason, and because of population deviations in the plan and other considerations, Guest said there is “very little that is good” about the plan.
Senate Minority Leader William A. Truban (RWoodstock) said this week that jthe Senate will probably sustain Dalton’s veto, but that “of course, you never can tell."
Truban is opposed to the House plan, and will continue to oppose it despite a longstanding assembly tradition that neither the House nor the Senate tampers with each other’s redistricting plans. Despite that tradition, Truban said of the plan, “Well, if something’s wrong, it’s wrong.”
Truban said he supports single-member districts in the House, since both the governor and the federal court have indicated that such a plan would be acceptable.
The court ruled that although the April House plan is unconstitutional, it could be used for interim House elections this year. But the court also said that delegates would be elected this year for a one-year term, and would have to run next year in new districts that must be approved by the Feb. 1 deadline.
