Safety Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, which is working on amendments to the 198284 state budget to account for what is estimated to be a $305 million shortfall in state revenue over the two-year period.

State money for improvements to the Rappahannock jail was included in the budget but was eliminated by Gov. Charles S. Robb’s Secretary of Public Safety as part of the governor’s budget-trimming efforts.

Guest said after Friday’s meeting that he would know, perhaps by Feb. 7, whether the money will be included in the budget. The appropriations panel is expected to present the amended budget to the House by that date.
