Even before Daniel started at Wakefield, the wonders of Christmas time had begun to win his enthusiasm. The night after his arrival, seven inches of snow fell. Daniel's previous experiences of snow had been limited to pictures of the snow capped Himalayas, the bordering giants between India and Tibet. Allan opened a window, scooped a handful from the sill and touched Daniel's face with the cold powdery flakes. Daniel shivered and exclaimed “Thundeh!" or, in English, “Cold!” Recalled \Allan, "Then I ate a little bit at^ he ate a little bit and he just loved that. He laughed and laughed, playing with it the while."
