Donna said, she’d like to move to Rappahannock but the size of her household near Delaplane limits her mobility. Donna shares her farm there with a herd of dairy goats, several old horses and a few dogs and cats.

Although Donna enjoys producing and repairing quality leather goods, her plan is to become one of the few people in the country who make leather harness for draft horses. To learn the added skills she needs, she will work with a harnessmaker in Wyoming. “Everyone I’ve talked with has been so willing to help,” she said. She also corresponds with a Mennonite harness-maker in Harrisonburg. As far as Donna knows, these two and another in Pennsylvania are the only full harness-makers in the country.
“There’s been a revived interest in draft horses all over,” Donna said. “Also there’s an interest right now in carriage horses. All these people need work harness and I think they’d be interested in a Virginia source.”
Until she can manage a trip to Wyoming, Donna is busy at her shop. From her Wyoming friend she’s gotten a harness stitcher, a beautiful machine last made in the 'twenties. With it she can
