According to Guest, the latest cost estimate for the jail renovation is S162.000. That figure has varied from SI 50,000 last March to as low as $65,000 in July.
Guest asked the committee to reimburse the county for 50 percent of the cost, or about $81,000. Rappahannock County would pay the rest, he said.
Guest said that if the House panel fails to include the money in its recommended budget, he will try to get the funding as part of the budget of the Senate Finance Committee, which will be recommending, its own budget to the full Senate.
