Only two seats on the board of supervisors and the offices of sheriff and commonwealth’s attorney will be contested in the general election this November.
At filing deadline Tuesday, June 14, no candidates had announced in opposition to incumbents clerk of the court Diane Bruce, treasurer Frances Foster or commissioner of revenue Merle Scoggin. Supervisors Hubert S. Gilkey III (Wakefield), Clarence Baldwin (Hampton) and Charles K. Estes (Piedmont) also will run unopposed.
Supervisor chairman J. R. Latham is facing a challenge from Louis G. Zindell III (see separate story) to retain his seat as representative from Jackson District.
