ferent procedure: just before cherries ripen, he got up at daybreak; went to the tree with a BB gun; shot a bird; tied a string to the leg of the carcass; and suspended the dead bird from the highest branch.
That method DID work, and we got some cherries. It seems that birds understand the subtleties of that sort of intimidation or else the aroma of that dead bird sort of curbed their appetite for cherries (as it did mine). But this IS a success story, with a moral: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
