hannock County Republican Committee will act as host for a forum in that district.
Public education appears to be an issue on which both supervisor campaigns will focus. That makes the Rappahannock County Education Association a logical choice as another forum sponsor. The Rappahannock County High School Booster Club and the elementary school’s Student-Parent-Teacher Association are other alternatives as forum organizers.
The Rappahannock Lions Club and the Chester Gap Ruritans are two more possibilities as sponsors for forums that could focus on the races for sheriff and commonwealth’s attorney.
We realize that neither voters nor candidates can spend every night of the week presenting their platforms and answering questions at a long series of meetings that stretch from now until election day. But surely, both groups can find the time and the energy for three, four, even five over the next five months.
The Rappahannock New's promises to cover each and every “meet the candidates” night that can be squeezed into the calendar. But that’s not the same as hearing the statements first hand.
We can set an example of grass roots participatory democracy. A democracy can’t function effectively without an educated electorate. Here in Rappahannock, between now and November 8, we have an opportunity to gain that education. Let’s not waste it.
