Woof! Woof! The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors’ decision to halt construction of the animal shelter in Scrabble is a gift to both Scrabble residents and other residents in the county. If the decision of the Board holds, residents living near the . site will not have to endure the torment of howling hounds. Don’t get us wrong. We love little animals. Even big ones. Studies have repeatedly shown that people function better with pets in their lives. And the Humane Society is always a good source for obtaining pets. But to begin erecting an animal hotel in a residential area is a presumtuous invasion of privacy. Who could sleep with the noise? County residents also received a gift — a decision was made , to allow citizens to express their views before the animal shelter is built. But don’t be too quick to sigh a sigh of relief. The issue is not over. The Board of Supervisors will be conducting a public hearing on the issue. If your voice is not raised, it is conceivable that the Scrabble site, of another unpopular site, could be approved. Be at that meeting to express your views.
