Lhnstmas trees — she didn t tell me that we had been poor — too poor to buy the decorations, etc. — she would just say, “We used Yankee Ingenuity.”
Last week, we noticed that most of the town shops, The Inn, and the Post Office used real, natural greens to trim their doorways, make their wreaths, etc. We also wanted to use the natural greens, but in a somewhat different way — something from yesteryear. That’s when I remembered our homemade' Christmas trees — we fut that we could use the same materials and bright colored paints for our door decoration. But, instead of the bunch of branches becoming a tree, we just turned a tied-together bunch upside down, so it became a door decoration. The cut branch ends we hid with a bright red and white ribbon bow.
Several customers at “Mostly Yesteryear” seemed quite amazed at the unusualness and originality of our door decoration, asking where we found it. We revealed the origin of our decoration which doesn’t seem that unusual to us since we’d made them so many times before. We really enjoyed stepping back into the past, and thought that maybe you would eiyoy hearing about a bit of our part of yesteryear.
