The Commissioner of Revenue is a constitutional officer, elected by the voters of the county. The revenue office, which is overseen by the commissioner, is responsible for recording and processing information relating to taxes, land transfers, land-use oversight, gathering and conveying financial information to the Board of Supervisors, and serving as a liaison between the citizens of Rappahannock and the state tax department.
