The schools are run by the government and the school has almost complete rule over the kids, even extending into private life. First, boys and girls are pretty much separated from the age of seven. Almost all the schools are not co-ed. You might find ONE co-ed school in a large town, but even there the boys and girls are in separate classes.
Not only are they separated in school, but they are also pretty much segregated outside of school. So, obviously there is really no dating. I did find out that many boys and girls meet by getting together as a group, but not by themselves.
The Korean school system goes to the twelfth grade, as in the United States, but the division of the grades is different. Elementary school is grades one through six, middle school is seven through nine, and high school is grades 10 to 12. For high school students school hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They have classes from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and from 6 to 10 p.m. there is s study period which all students musl attend.
