I would like to express the appreciation of the board members of the Rappahannock Unit of the American Heart Association to the many people of this county who contributed talent, time and funds for the recent “Cardiac Arrest” program. The arrestees were released on bail generously provided by friends and families. ' -:.
Ray Cannon related that his granddaughter, Ashleigh, really thought that he was going to be kept in jail, and tearfully gave her own money to free him.
Jim Thomasson candidly admitted that some of his university students were reluctant to contribute, saying that they could enjoy his confinement.
Senator Eugene McCarthy came through with his own bail, judging that the jailhouse air would not be good for his heart.
We are particularly grateful for the excellent news coverage given by Lou Hatter and the Rappahannock News staff.
In addition to our appreciation for the above participants, we would like to say thanks to Doug Baumgardner, Diane Bruce, Randolph Clater, Marie Davis, Robert Eastham, Charles Estes, Bill Fletcher, Jennings Hobson III, David Konick, Richard Latham.
