Williamsburg Inn Date Nut Pound Cake 1 c. sugar 1 c. butter 5 eggs 1 tsp. orange flavoring 1 tsp. lemon flavoring 1/3 c. chopped dates 1/8 tsp. baking powder 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour, reserving 2 Tbsp. to dredge dates 1/3 c. chopped pecans or walnuts Have all ingredients at room temperature. Grease loaf pan and dust with flour. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add orange and lemon flavorings.
Sift flour and baking powder together and gradually stir into egg mixture. After adding dry ingredients to egg mixture, stir in pecans or walnuts and dates (dredged in 2 Tbsp flour). Spoon into prepared loaf pan. Place in cold oven. Turn oven to 300 degrees F. and bake for 1 hour. Williamsburg Cookbook. Tipsy Cake is a favorite of many people at Christmas.
