Serious feuding
Throughout their lifetimes, male big horn sheep perform ritualistic head-butting battles as they contend, for domination over the herd and its females.
National Wildlife magazine reports that during these battles the two combatants often reach a combined speed of 45 miles per hour as they charge headlong toward each other. Often, their horns meet with a resounding “('rack!” that can be heard more than a mile away. Evolution, however, has provided the sheep with natural helmets in the form of a double-layered skull and thick facial hide which can withstand the tremendous blow s.
