James William Leake, 47, of Route 1, Sperryville, faces a charge of attempted murder after an altercation at the Parkway Gift Shop on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

According to a complaint filed by Thomas W. Atkins, also of Route 1, Sperryville, Mr. Leake came to the Parkway Gift Shop, located on Route 211 west of Sperryville that morning, where Mr. Atkins was taking inventory with Mr. Leake’s estranged wife, Mildred.

The warrant sworn against Mr. Leake alleges that when he got out of his car he confronted Mr. Atkins and Mrs. Leake, who were standing on the porch of the gift shop, and threatened to kill them.

The warrant further alleges that Mr. Leake approached them with a gun drawn, cursing and threatening their lives. When he got within arm’s length, the statement continues, Mr. Atkins and Mrs. Leake
