Christmas at
Wakefield
Wakefield School in Huntly invites the public to a Christmas program to be held in the school auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
The seventh grade will present the play. Innkeeper, Innkeeper!,” portraying the Nativity story through the eyes of the innkeeper in Bethlehem. The play is one of a quintet by Pamela Lynn, Wakefield acting headmistress.
The lower grades will perform Christmas music and carols throughout the play. The preparatory school will also be caroling during the evening, and the junior class will have refreshments and handmade Christmas decorations for sale.
The public is also welcome at Wakefield’s foreign language caroling program on Friday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Students will present carols in Latin, French, Spanish, Russian and German. Senior Devon Suter will comment on the Christmas customs of each culture.
The finale will be the singing of a verse of “Silent Night” in each language, with the audience joining in the English version at the end. At 11 a.m., students will return to their classes for Christmas parties. School will be dismissed for the holidays at noon.
Wakefield Christmas observances this year began with a “Season Starter” on Dec. 1. Sixty students caroled for the patients and staff at Lynn Care Center at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal and sang for the tree-lighting ceremony on the hospital lawn. The students then returned to school to sing at the Wakefield Parents’ Association meeting.
Wakefield held its own Christmas tree-lighting ceremony during morning assembly on Dec. 7; the magnificent 20-foot tree is one of the outstanding decorations supplied by Wakefield parents.
Wakefield’s 313 students and 44 staff and faculty members have been collecting food and toys throughout the season for the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services, and they adopted a local family for w'hom they are collecting clothing.
Wakefield will hold a Ski Day on Monday, Jan. 2, and classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
