Financial aid seminar
Rappahannock County High School will sponsor a workshop on financial aid, "Money for College," at the high school on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 1:15 p.m. Debbie Harper, financial aid director at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, will explain the numerous types of aid available to prospective/college students, where money is available, and how and when to apply for it. Parents and other members of the community interested in college aid are also invited to attend the session. Guidance Director James Futrell said, "I feel that this is an important service to offer to our students and community. I hope that everyone will take advantage of this opportunity."
Poetiy series at library , The Rappahannock County Library will offer a series of discussions on "Making It New — the Origins of Modern Poetry," beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The series, which was made possible by a grant from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities, will include discussions led by local scholar Peter Klappert, a 13p5rt videocassette series, and textbooks and other materials. The five-part series will include poets William Carlos Williams, T. S. Eliot, Langston Hughes, Elizabeth Bishop and Sylvia Plath. Librarian Dee Brents said that the series is open to any interested residents, regardless of their knowledge of the subject.
