Arsonist sentenced
Ronnie Jenkins, 34, of Route 1, Box 69, Sperryville, wras sentenced Monday to 12 months in jail for setting a fire in a field belonging to Phillip Hawkins on Nov. 25, 1987.
The charge resulted from a dispute over hunting permission between Mr. Hawkins, Jenkins and Wayne and Leroy Sisk. According to the complaint, Jenkins and the Sisks used gasoline to set multiple fires in Mr. Hawkins’s fields after he refused to give them permission to hunt op his property.
After reaching a plea agreement with the Commonw'ealth, Jenkins pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of maliciously setting fires. Judge Carleton Penn suspended all but 60 days of the 12month jail term and placed him on probation for one year. He was also fined $700 and ordered to serve 40 hours of community service.
