Robert Wayne Wynkoop, 20, of Route 1 Box 80, Boston, was found guilty in Circuit Court last Thursday of breaking and entering and grand larceny. The two felony charges stemmed from a break-in at Phillip Shackleton's home on Route 231 outside Sperryville last year.
According to testimony from admitted burglar Carl Joe Wilson Jr., Wynkoop was his accomplice during the January 1988 break-in. Wilson testified that he suggested the burglary to Wynkoop after noticing, as he hitchhiked to work in Warrenton, that the house seemed vacant.
Wilson, who acknowledged that his criminal record includes nine convictions for burglary .and three for auto theft in Oklahoma, said he suggested the burglary to Wynkoop after hearing him talking about “stealing things." He said that both men were broke and planned to sell whatever they could steal for money to buy marijuana.
