It was the kind of shot boys all over the country imagine themselves making when they’re shooting around in their backyards: the game is tied, there are only two seconds on the clock, and you let it go from the baseline — swoosh.
Eric Dunn probably sank that shot a hundred times in the gym and on the playground, but none were as exciting as the one that capped a 6360 victory for the Rappahannock Panthers Monday night over Bull Run rival George Mason. The win put RCHS in a three-w'ay tie atop the district with Strasburg and Central.
Early in the fourth period the Panthers appeared to have the game well in hand. With seven minutes left, an Anthony Porter layup gave Rappahannock a 50-38 lead. The Mustangs looked tired after going the distance with only two substitutions, while Coach Gary Leake had traded often between court and bench and used 11 players to keep his troops fresh.
