Food distribution Dec. 21 The Rappahannock County Department of Social Services will distribute governmentsupplied basic commodities on Friday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. until noon from the basement of the Social Services office on Gay St. All eligible recipients are urged to stop by the office during those hours to pick up their commodities. The Rappahannock County Cooperative Extension Office will close at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 and remain closed through Christmas week. The office will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m. Extension agents Tommy Williams and Helen Smith and office manager Jan Palmer wish the county's residents the happiest of holidays and a joyous New Year! Money for homeless
The Cougar Cub Scout den of Pack 123 has placed wooden boxes in the shape of houses in locations around the county to collect money for homelees children and their families. The money will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, an organization that provides homeless families with skilled help and money to build or renovate a house in exchange for 500 hours of labor. The family then owns the house, and must agree to live in it for five years. The Cub Scouts built the boxes, painted them and made signs. The project was inspired, a leader explained, by a United Nations report that there are 90 million children in the world without homes.
