And to us, exclaimed Laura from the rug. “Dan works hard, but we must depend a lot on donations since someone always needs (and gets) medical attention. Like humans, we feel cold, hunger, pain, rejection and the need for love.”
“Yes!” they purred, as they settled down to their naps. “We are blessed!”
In this imaginary conversation, the cats have their facts correct. Shirley Minton is life itself to so many little bright-eyed cats and kittens as well as those who are sightless. While ‘relearning” some things following her surgeries, she finds time to tutor an elderly lady and two handicapped persons. She gets no monetary compensation, and, at times is criticized.
Through her struggles to care for her “critters,” Shirley grieves at each loss. The fortunate little castaways from people who allow their cats to breed at will, find their way to the Mintons. All too often, they perish while those who threw them away are snuggled in warm beds happy to be rid of the little “pests.”
The Mintons live simply. They don’t follow the latest fashion trends; they don’t go out to dinner;
