Cost-share signup underway
The Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District is taking applications for its 1991 Chesapeake Bay Cost Share Program. Farmers may sign up at the county ASCS office, located in the Gay St. Theatre in Washington, until Jan. 15. This year, landowners can benefit from a new $5,000 maximum on funding, up from the $3,500 cap in previous years. “Because of this unique cost-share program,” said a SWCD spokesman, “there's something you can do about the problems facing our waters." The program allows farmers "to install conservation practices that protect Virginia's waters and lead to more productive farms."
