An-influenza epidemic hit
Rappahannock this week, sending absenteeism soaring at the county’s public schools and forcing cancellations of classes until January 5. By Monday afternoon, 308 children - 46 per cent - of the elementary school’s enrollment of 667 were out, the overwhelming majority with the flu. Included on the absentee list were 11 teachers and aides.
Walter Scott Reid III, a Wakefield sophomore, won the second place award in the oratorical contest sponsored by the American Legion for area youths. The contest, held Saturday, Dec. 12 , at the Warren County High School, required students to deliver an 8-11 minute speech on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution.
