all of Miss Susies’ Irises came to life, there was nothing more beautiful. Each Spring we discovered another variety and color.
We transplanted all th^ bulbs from the fields where they had been thrown after Fall clean-up time. At our last count we had 23 different colors and varieties.
The Irises seemed to preside over the gardens like a queen and the other Spring flowers only enhanced their beauty.
I remember summer, and all the happy times we shared on the magnificent porch. The early mornings watching for the first hummingbird to come to feed, and at dusk, just listening to the sounds of nature at the end of the day.
What made it all seem so complete was our old soldier, the Chestnut Oak. For nearly 500 years he stood watch, during peace and war.
