Students save sweethearts
The RCHS chapter of the National Honor Society is organizing a "Save a Sweetheart" campaign at the high school this week. The campaign, introduced by the American Heart Association, is designed to stop students from smoking or prevent them from starting. Students are asked to pledge not to start smoking within the year, or to stop smoking for Save a Sweetheart Day, which is Valentine's Day. Students who make the pledges receive pencils and buttons which say, "I'm Kissable, I Don't Smoke." National Honor Society members will distribute pledge cards during all lunch shifts at the school this week. Posters have been placed in the school and announcements are being made talking about the dangers of smoking and " hints on how to stop. "Since smoking has been linked to death and disability due to heart disease," a member of the Honor . Society said, "we believe that it is important that our students and our community are aware of its dangers and are given opportunities to learn how to prevent these dangers from affecting their lives."
