All county
officials plan
to run again

With the 1991 election almost nine months in the future, all Rappahannock constitutional officers say they will run for reelection, and four of five members of the Board of Supervisors say they also will be condidates for reelection.
Robert Anderson, supervisor from Stonewall-Hawthom District, said that because of his location on the edge of his district, he will wait until the county has redistricted before making his decision.
Sheriff John Henry Woodward, Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, Clerk of the Court Diane Bruce, Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins, and Treasurer Frances Foster all said they would seek another term.
Wakefield District representative Hubert Gilkey, Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes, Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham and Hampton District representative Mike Massie also announced they will seek another four-year term.
At this time only Sheriff Woodward has announced opposition. Roger Cordani, of Amissville said he intends to file as a candidate for sheriff as soon as filing papers are available.
Mr. Cordani said he wants to run be sheriff in order to promote more drug awareness in the schools and community, and to make the sheriffs department more responsive to citizen complaints.
Normally candidates would be required to file by June 17, but this year because of the need to redistrict the filing deadline will probably be pushed back until Sept. 3. A bill to set that date as the filing deadline is working its way through the Gneeral Assembly. , Mr. Massie pointed out that this means that an incumbent will have to campaign as though he faces opposition not knowing if he indeed does until September. He said that might be a good thing “because it forces you to get out and hear your constituents’ concerns.”
