County High School English classes are participating with Operation Desert Storm Letter Writing Campaign.
Guidance counselor Joyce GoodEwing became familiar with the campaign and offered it to the English teachers.
‘We mailed 34 letters on Friday,” February 1, Mr. Heddleston reported, clearly proud of his students. “I had several classes on Friday writing personal letters to the servicemembers in the Gulf.”
Writing letters is often a difficult task for young students. Writing letters to the unknown can be even more a chore. Mr. Heddleston said the dedicated youths set forth a great effort.
“They were very serious about the entire ordeal,” he said, adding the “eighth graders were most industrious” asking questions on possible topics and appropriateness of their letters. “I had one girl write a four page letter,” he said. Mr. Heddleston, himself, wrote to ex-student Richard Dodson, now stationed in the Gulf. “I told him it was about
