Last week was the “Crossover.” We were in session this past Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 2, 3 and 4 late into the night, considering hundreds of pieces of legislation to be sent to the Senate. So far, over 800 House bills have been sent over to the Senate with the remaining 300 or so killed.
This past Thursday, the budget was presented to the House Floor for debate. As I predicted, this year’s budget bill would be the most amended budget ever. More debate took place on this budget than in recent memory. As was expected, the Republican floor amendments were continuously voted down by the spendthrift Democrats. The battle lines were distinct, when we offered amendments of real fiscal soundness. Delegate R. Cranwell (D-Roanoke), would raise in opposition and cynically speak of partisanship.
This budget session it became clearer than ever that the process of good fiscal management is flawed by Gov. Wilder’s protectionists democrats.
