Ruth Kilby

Ruth Alper Burt Kilby, 73, of Belle Meade Farm in Sperryville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 1991 at her residence.

Mrs. Kilby was a member of F.T. Baptist Church near Sperryville and retired voter registrar for Rappahannock County. She was the wife of the late Earl Joseph Kilby. *,

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty. Lowry of Mechanicsville and Mrs. Jane Kilby Miller of Culpeper; one son, Dr. Walter B. Kilby of Sperryville; three brothers, Mallory Burt, Varner Burt and Vincent Burt, all of West Blocton, Ala.; three sisters, Ferry Dale of Adamsville, Ala., French Brown of Prattville, Ala. and Wynell Welch of Gasden, Ala.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 12 at F.T. Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Farmer and Rev. William Harrison officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the F.T. Baptist Church.

Clore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria Smelser

Gloria Marie Smelser, 43, of Riverton, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 1991 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

The funeral was conducted Friday, Feb. 8 at the Tumer-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal by the Rev. Jerry Young. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Smelser was born June 16, 1947, in Front Royal, the daughter of Turner Kidwell of Front Royal and the late Marie Jones Kidwell. She was employed with Jackson Furniture Company in Front Royal.

Surviving with her father are her stepmother, Blanche Kidwell of Front Royal; her husband, Roger Phillip Smelser Sr.; two sons, Roger P. Smelser Jr. of Strasburg and Joe Lee Smelser of Front Royal; a daughter, Charlene Marie Smelser, at home; a brother, Bobby Kidwell of Stephens City; three sisters, Mary Campbell of Chester Gap; Wanda Williams of Blue Mountain and Libby Haun of Front Royal; a step-brother, Lloyd Payton of Front Royal; a step-sister, Lee Williams of Front Royal; and four grandchildren.
