“By this time, we usually have collected $300 to $400,” said Mrs. Davis, adding no funds besides the church donations have been taken and no foods donated.
“Several people have called to say they are putting up boxes,” she said, adding in past years, local schools have sponsored food drives to help collect non-perishable foods, though this year, even these groups have not responded to the need.
Donations are tax-deductible and checks can be made to Rappahannock County Social Services, P.O. Box 87, Washington, Va. 22747.
People can take non-perishable items to the office on Gay Street in Washington between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
“If someone needs to be here earlier or later, they can call and someone will meet them,” said Mrs.
