the Luray JV, 59-42. Hunter Foster led the Panthers in scoring with 14, James Fletcher scored 10 and Jason Settle had 7. The J V had two starters out, Shawn Jordan and Shane Lambert, but were still able to keep it close until the fourth quarter when point guard Paul Brown fouled out.

Coach Tim Corder said defense lost the game for the team. “Our guards were just outplayed,” he said, adding that Luray has a better team than last year, when their JV went 0-20.

“Overall we looked pretty good, but we just got behind and couldn’t make it up," said Coach Corder.

Also making the JV team this season: Ray Atkins, Raymond Williams, Luke Zindel, Jeffrey Holder, Derek Dacaziwitz, Daniel Dodson, Andre Fletcher and Jonathan Maeyer.

The Panthers start Bull Run District competition at George Mason High in Falls Church Friday (JV starts at 6 p.m., varsity follows), then open their home season against Luray at Sperryville Saturday (JV 6 p.m., varsity follows). Two more home games during the following week are against Clarke on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and Central on Friday, Dec. 20.
