When this column started,
not long ago, words and ideas flowed. I thought it would never stop. But sometimes what I and maybe others think as funny will inadvertently offend. I’m sorry if this happens but you can’t taken back the written word. What has always impressed and pleased me about this county is the people. They generally are wholesome, honest, friendly and affectionate toward one another.
I had a religious person once say that friendship is the indefinable comfort of feeling safe with someone, not having to choose your words nor sort your thoughts, but just speak out, knowing that the friend will sort out the good and throw the rest away. The good life now that aging has etched some values into me, is not money nor fame, but comfort.
Many years ago, I was stationed in North Carolina. There was a line that went “What do they say in North Carolina?” Answer. “Thank God for South Carolina!” I was reminded of this before election when the lunch bunch had a visiting politician and a question was asked.
