As the transitional program is primarily geared toward women who have experienced domestic violence within their homes, it is very important that they begin to feel safe living in the Transition House.
Victims of abuse have reason to fear that, should the abuser find her, she will be victimized again. An open yard that allows direct observation of onlookers encourages the women to isolate themselves in their homes.
