Investigators from the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office are lookihg into the theft of thousands of dollars worth of art and Oriental rugs from Rare Finds on Main Street in Washington, Va. Dec. 2.
According to Sheriff John H. Woodward, there was no sign of forced entry. The Inn at Little Washington, which rents rooms in the building, lost seven Oriental rugs worth a total of $3,625. Col. and Mrs. Stewart Willis, owners of the building, also lost five wall hangings and an Oriental rug.
In other police news this week:
• Tutt Stapp-Harris reported to the Sheriffs Office this week that a traveler’s check and two $50 German marks were taken from her car, parked in Washington, Va., on Dec. 2, according to Sheriff Woodward. Her vehicle was unlocked at the time, he said.
• Someone stole a $265 nativity scene from the front of the Amissville United Methodist Church on Dec. 2 or Dec. 3, according to Sheriff Woodward. Taken were Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus, two shepherds, two kings, a donkey, a cow, a camel and two lambs. The church has been hit by a string of larcenies in recent weeks, said the sheriff.
• The home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Evans on Route 618 in Castleton was burglarized last week, according to Sheriff Woodward. Taken were a pair of binoculars, a 20-inch Sony TV, and a Houston tracker satellite receiver, total value of about $2,000.
The burglars entered by breaking a window in the front door.
i A Flint Hill home was the site of an attempted burglary last week, according to the sheriff. Bruce Williams reported on Dec. 8 that after being gone two days he returned and noticed signs of attempted entry into his home on
