“This doesn’t show how much the money would grow if it is left in the taxpayers’ pockets,” he said, referrtng to Dr. Gangel’s figures. He said * that additional land and expenses for improvements to the sewer systems might be needed even if the middle school is built. He noted that many changes are coming to public education and questioned the wisdom of building a middle school now. He added that he had attended the elementary school when it had* 100 more students than it now has.
“You have some excellent points,” Mr. Estes said. “But not one nickel will I vote for it (additions).-” He suggested the middle school could be built in stages with large core facilities and only enough classrooms for the immediate need but with plans for additions later. “That will save us money in the long run,” he added. / The School Board is expected to vote next week on whether to‘recommend a middle»school or additions to the two existing schools.
County Administrator John McCarthy reported progress towards working out an agreement to take ■ county trash to a landfill in Fauquier County starting next January. Mr. McCarthy said the supervisors would have to decide- on whether to abandon the existing dumpster sites in Huntly and Scrabble, keep both, or consolidate into-one site in addition to the landfill.
He said they would need to know whether they will be participating in the Fauquier landfill by April because’ if the county is not going to participate work on a new landfill
