t To the Editor:
We attended the Dec. 21 hearing on expansion plans being considered for Rappahannock County schools. We were reminded, in graphic detail, of the overcrowded conditions that exist at both our public schools.
We were told again- of the great need at the elementary school to take action now to prepare for increased enrollment. We were reminded that the elementary school cannot handle now as many students as it did some years ago because state mandates now require that some of the school’s classrooms be set aside for special, designated uses.
We are not in favor, any more than any county resident, of spending funds for something that is not absolutely necessary. However, it is clear to us that we must act now to ensure that public education i§ something we can be proud of in Rappahannock County. It is clear that we must be willing to spend money to do that.
