seems almost inevitable given the mood of the times, but it may not go nearly as far as the drastic measures recommended by a blue ribbon advisory panel recently. Already some legislators are complaining that recommended contribution limits for various offices are too low.
By the time the so-called “short session” ends, the legislature and state citizens should have a better idea of fiscal prospects for the next several years. Most insiders think Virginia has weathered the worst of the economic storm in far better shape than other states thanks to its willingness to make tough budgetary choices.
But now that better times may be ahead, you can be sure that various interest groups who didn’t get all they wanted in the bad times the past few years will be trying to make up for lost time. The lobbyists, as usual, will be out in force.
