School Board Chairman Beverly Massie said she was concerned abou$ scheduling. “There are certain elec? tives students want to have,” she said. “I hope all the schedules fall into place so as many as are really in} terested can avail themselves of th§ course.”
Math lab teacher Molly Hobson described changes in the math cu& riculum to the board. She said tfa$ National Council of Teachers of Mathematics had been the first pro*fessional group in education to begw offering “research-based national standards for excellence.” She saifl the staff used those standards in sfg lecting math books for adoption for the next six years. Problem solving^ mathematical reasoning, commit nication and connections will be eftf phasized in all areas of mathematics Mrs. Hobson said. She said students will be challenged to defend their solutions to problems. “We’re comiQf back to a richer curriculum, bijf we’re not going off on a wild tai* gent,” she said. , 3
Dr. Gangel said so far this yesajthe school system has had $95,000 i$ unexpected expenses. He said he j “more hopeful than I have been any time since November” that savings in other areas will enable the school system “to finish the year in tltt black.”
