Mr. Massie noted that of the people who spoke only three opposed the 24 percent tax increase. He said he had been trying to cut one cent from the tax rate. He added that would mean cutting the budget $50,000. “If anybody knows a way to save one cent on the tax rate, I’ll listen,” he said. He added he had hoped to save some by eliminating the one sheriffs deputy funded by the county, but that would mean the county would not be covered 24 hours a day.
