The Gallery houses many great master P»ee« from the 14th to the 18th Centuries. It has the largest Rubens collection of any museum and is without a doubt one of the greatest painting collections in the world. The Ahe Pinakothek was built by the court architect Leo von Kiense in the style of the Venetian High Renaissance and his building is a most dignified and appropriate home for the collection. Directly across from the Alte Pinakothek is the brand new, modern Neue Pinakothek. Thus a perusal of the history of art can be continued from one splendid building to the next. The new building, a moat striking and successful desi^i, contains over five hundred paintings and sculpturee. Strong points of the collection are the French Impresaioniets, Mareee, Goya, English Painting of the 18th Century and 19th Century paintings of the Munich School.
